Case Description
One of the last times I saw my dentist (a while, since I only recently regained a dental plan) he noticed the eroding enamel on my two upper cuspids (the right being worse) and asked if I'd had braces (which I had). He said the removal of them and/or the cement used could have cause this and I needed to get them taken care of to reduce sensitivity. Well, I've never had the money or insurance since then and now the erosion (esp. on the right upper cuspid) has gotten worse to where most of the top layer of enamel is gone (about 70-80% visibly). In the past few months I've experienced moderate occasional pain in this tooth (and at times in the root which is now sensitive under the gum, though doesn't hurt). And in the past few months I've also had a small gum boil frequently appear in the same place on the gum where the root would be (about halfway between the visible tooth and the top of the gum connecting to the lip area). The boil never hurts but I know it means something is very wrong.
Does this boil stem from the erosion of the tooth? What can be done? I know boils usually result in root canals, which doesn't bother me, but considering the erosion in addition to the infection, what would be the suggested methods of treatment/procedure and what is an estimated cost? Though I have a dental plan (not insurance) I can't afford much especially if I have to pay all up front? Is there a good dentist who takes payments?

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.
